10 things I’ve learned in Ireland this week

  1. It’s not such a long way to Tipperary
  2. Talking about death repeatedly and having a relative pinpoint your exact cause and remaining life expectancy is perfectly normal
  3. Expletives are often used affectionately and by way of a compliment
  4. Health and safety is non existent
  5. I am without a shadow of a doubt the spitting image of my mother
  6. Garda checkpoints still exist
  7. I was not destined to win €190,000 on the lotto this week
  8. Connemara, whilst beautiful, is one of the bleakest places I’ve ever visited
  9. Everyone in any given town knows absolutely everybody within a 10 mile radius and every relative they’ve ever had, including the ones who have passed and where they are buried
  10. My dad be coming to a hearing aid specialist with me as soon as we’re home, even if I have to drag him kicking and screaming!
